DR BALAMURUGAN GURUSAMY SURGEON ENTREPRENEUR AWARD
This award was instituted in the Association of Surgeons of India, Tamil Nadu State Chapter by Prof. Dr. S.G. Balamurugan, M.S., M.Ch., FICS, FAIS, FRCS, Ph.D. Surgical Oncologist | Healthcare Entrepreneur in year 2025.
He is a Surgical Oncologist and Founder & Head of Surgical Oncology at Guru Hospital, Madurai, a 100-bedded NABH-accredited cancer care institution. He has established an integrated oncology center with strong emphasis on quality systems, academic training, and patient-centered care.
Guru Hospital is accredited for the DrNB Super Specialty Program in Surgical Oncology, and he serves as Course Director – Fellowship in Minimal Access Surgery. He has served ASI and TNASI in multiple leadership roles including National Executive Committee Member (2022–Present), State Secretary TNASI (2019–2022), Organising Secretary TNASI State Conference – Thekkady (2018), and Secretary TNASI Madurai City Chapter (2018–2019).
He is a Certified NABH Assessor and actively involved in cancer awareness programs, free screening camps, and mobile outreach initiatives through the MAMO Bus Program.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Dr. Balamurugan Gurusamy Award for Excellence in Surgical Entrepreneurship. The award shall be presented annually during the ASI–Tamil Nadu State Conference.
Eligibility
- Life Member of Association of Surgeons of India (ASI)
- Minimum 10 years of independent surgical practice
- Demonstrated excellence in hospital/institution building, healthcare entrepreneurship, or service innovation
- Contribution to academic teaching, training programs, or CMEs
- Active involvement in community health initiatives or social outreach
- Preferably served in ASI/TNASI leadership or organizational roles
- Maintains high standards of professional ethics and service
