Dr. T. V. Sivanandam Oration
Dr. T. V. Sivanandam was born at Tirupur on 19th June, 1911 to Mr.Vellangiri Chettiar and Mrs. Parvathavarthini.He had his schooling at Tirupur and college Education at Coimbatore. He graduated M.B.B.S from the prestigious Madras Medical College in 1937.
Dr. Sivanandam worked as the honorary Surgeon at Coimbatore Government Head Quarters Hospital from 1938 to 1964. He was the first Honorary Civil Surgeon of the state. He was the first to implement ESI Scheme in Tamil Nadu. He played a Key role in Starting the Coimbatore Medical College.
Dr. T. V. Sivanandam was the first to be elected as a Fellow of International College of Surgeons USA. He was also the Founder Fellow of College of General Practitioners (IMA).
Dr. T. V. Sivanandam was the founder President of Tamil Nadu Chapter of National Society for Prevention of Blindness at Coimbatore and Diabetic Association of India, Coimbatore Branch. He was the President of Indian Medical Association, Tamil Nadu and Coimbatore for 3 terms. He was the member of Dr. B. C. Roy National memorial award committee, New Delhi. He has held prime positions in various socio, economic and educational Organizations. He was the Charter President of Coimbatore West Rotary Club. He was also elected as a Councillor of Coimbatore Municipality for two terms.
In recognition of his services to the medical fraternity Diabetic Association of India, Coimbatore Branch, ASI Tamil Nadu Chapter and IMA Coimbatore has instituted an oration. Coimbatore Medical College has instituted the Dr. T. V. Sivanandam’s 70th year commemoration medallion to the best outgoing student.
Dr. T. V. Sivanandam was happily married to Smt. T. V. S. Sundarammal. He had one daughter Smt. T. S. Annapoorani and three Grandsons and one Grand Daughter.
Criteria:
- Any Life Member of TNASI in good standing can be proposed for the above oration and seconded by two other members of TNASI, who are in good standing.
- The Proposal document should contain a short Bio data of the Orator, Choice of named Oration and their proposed topic.
- Members should enclose 2 copies of the complete text of their proposed Oration topic.
- TNASI Executive Committee will scrutinise all the proposals and Orators will be finalised. The decision of the Executive Committee will be final.
- The nominations should be sent to the Hon. Secretary, TNASI by sending an email to asitnp@gmail.com on or before 15th of June 2024.
