Dr. M. Mathias Oration


Dr. M. Mathias was born in Devicode village near Karingal, Kanyakumari District on 12th September, 1902. He had his early education at Trivandrum. He graduated M.B.B.S from Madras Medical College in 1921.He secured the first in Anatomy.

Dr. Mathias started practice in Nagercoil in 1928. He contributed liberally for a primary School in Nagercoil, which is named after him. He built 3 Churches. He was one of the freedom fighters for the merger of South Travancore with Tamil Nadu. He was a Philanthropist and donated a building for Kanyakumari IMA which is named after him and the hall above is named after his beloved wife Mrs. Rosammal Mathias. He has 

conducted a number of free Medical Camps. He was a Successful Planter and developed the Balamore Estate.

Dr. M. Mathias was blessed with a good family-Mrs. Rosammal Mathias his wife and three well Settled sons Dr. M. R. Morris, Dr. M. J. Moses and Dr. Jayaseelan Mathias, 28 of the generation in his family are Doctors. He passed away on 9th July 1978.

Criteria:

 

  • Any Life Member of TNASI in good standing can be proposed for the above oration and seconded by two other members of TNASI, who are in good standing.
  • The Proposal document should contain a short Bio data of the Orator, Choice of named Oration and their proposed topic.
  • Members should enclose 2 copies of the complete text of their proposed Oration topic.
  • TNASI Executive Committee will scrutinise all the proposals and Orators will be finalised. The decision of the Executive Committee will be final.
  • The nominations should be sent to the Hon. Secretary, TNASI by sending an email to asitnp@gmail.com on or before 15th of June 2024.
