DR MARIMUTHU SARAVANAMUTHU – SUSHRUTHA AWARD
This award was instituted in the Association of Surgeons of India, Tamil Nadu State Chapter by Prof. Dr. S. Marimuthu, M.S., DNB, M.Ch., FICS, FAIS, Surgical Oncologist in the year 2025.
He is a Surgical Oncologist and Founder Chairman of Vishnu Multi-Speciality Hospital & Cancer Institute at Thanjavur. He established the first comprehensive cancer hospital at Thanjavur with all facilities and an advanced linear accelerator with IMRT facilities.
He was instrumental in starting the regional cancer centre and surgical oncology department at Government Thanjavur Medical College and initiating the MCh Surgical Oncology programme as Professor and Head of the Department. He is also a NABH assessor.
He joined the Association of Surgeons of India as a life member (FL12625) in 2001 and has been actively involved in ASI. He served as Hon Secretary (2010–2016) and Chairman (2020–2022) in ASI Thanjavur City Branch, Executive Committee Member (2016–2018), Hon Treasurer (2018–2022) and Hon Secretary (2022–2026) in ASI Tamil Nadu State Chapter.
He is currently serving as Executive Committee Member (2025–2027) of National ASI. He organized conferences TNMIDASICON 2016 and TNASICON 2022 at Thanjavur and also conducted surgical workshops ONCOTAN 2013 and ONCOTAN 2014 at Thanjavur.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Dr. Marimuthu Saravanamuthu – Sushrutha Award. The award shall be given annually during the Annual ASI – Tamil Nadu State Conference during the inauguration.
Eligibility
- Life Member of Association of Surgeons of India (ASI) belonging to Tamil Nadu State Chapter with residence in Tamil Nadu
- Minimum 10 years of surgical teaching experience (undergraduate and postgraduate)
- Contribution to research activities, authored surgical books, and published papers
- Contribution to academic teaching, training programs, CMEs of ASI and teaching institutions
- Active involvement in community health initiatives or social outreach
- Preferably served in ASI/TNASI leadership or organizational roles
- Maintains high standards of professional ethics and service
